Nothing quite sets the mood for a holiday like the right app for your iPhone. Halloween is one of the most unique holidays and should be celebrated virtually with spooky and creative apps. I’ve done a lot of browsing since last year, and I’m convinced that the best apps are either $0.99 or free, have some sort of novelty, and have you looking forward to throwing on a costume and hitting the town. Here are five apps that have been overlooked on the top charts for 2011, and show a lot of promise for 2012. Lets count them backwards, starting with #5...
#5 - Fake Tombstone
A unique app that allows the user to create custom-etched tombstones. The photos save directly to the camera roll, and can be printed out to add some spooky decor where appropriate. Text your friends a picture of their own grave and gauge their reaction!
Wickedly addictive, consider this a spookier version of Zynga's "Farmville" for your iPhone. Players can create their own theme park fit for the halloween season. You can even cross-breed monsters! Did I mention, it's completely free?
Who doesn't like a good zombie game? Elevator Zombies is a platform shooter where your objective is to get to safety quickly. I enjoyed the environmental interaction, and found myself playing this game well past the halloween season. Worth checking out at #3!
While this app just debuted in January of this year, the sheer novelty of not only spooking your friends, but recording it puts it in at #2. You hand your friends your phone and innocently tell them to try a new game. After the hidden timer counts down, it will display a frightening image and record your friend's reaction. Hilarious.
This clever app combines the stress of a 9 to 5 grind with the absurdity of the Zombie Apocalypse. You essentially throw items at an overworked zombie who reacts in unique and entertaining ways. If you have a morbid sense of humor, or just appreciate sarcastic office wit, this app is for you. Oh, and its free to download!
